Ohio

Ohio is one of the newest states that allow sports betting in the United States. It started in December of 2021 when Governor Mike DeWine signed the bill that authorized legal online sports betting in the state. The Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) began accepting applications from companies interested in operating sportsbooks in the state on June 1, 2022. On January 18, 2023, the OCC granted the first licenses to operate online sportsbooks in the state.

Currently there are 12 operators that are licensed to offer online sports betting in Ohio. Sportsbooks such as DraftKings, Caesars, FanDuel, PointsBet, WynnBET, BetMGM, and more.

In the first month, the industry generated over $500 million in revenue and $15 million in tax revenue for the state. There are a number of factors that can be attributed to the success of sports betting, such as a competitive market, a large population of sports fans, and the industry being well-regulated.

The legal age is 21 or older in order to bet on sports in the state of Ohio.
