New Jersey

Online sports betting began in New Jersey on July 1, 2018 when the state’s first two online sportsbooks, BetMGM and FanDuel, launched. The industry has grown rapidly in the state, with 27 more operators now offering online sports betting.

In the first year, New Jersey generated over $3 billion in sports betting revenue. This was more than double the amount that was projected by officials, and it resulted in the state collecting over $600 million in tax revenue.

New Jersey was on the forefront of the sports betting industry, with Governor Chris Christie signing a law authorizing sports betting in the state back in May of 2012. However, it wasn’t until the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a federal law that had prohibited sports betting in most states in 2017 that they were able to move online. Voters approved a constitutional amendment to legalize sports betting in the state on June 16, 2018, and less than a month later online sports betting began.

You must be 21 years or older to participate in sports betting in the state of New Jersey.
