Louisiana voters approved a constitutional amendment to legalize sports betting in the state on June 20, 2021. That following October 20, Louisiana Governor John Bel Ewards signed HB683 into law. This established the regulatory framework for sports betting in the state.

The first licenses for online sports betting in the state were issued on January 26, 2022 by the Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGB). Online sports betting launched on February 1, 2022. There are currently 13 online sportsbooks in the state. FanDuel, Caesars, Pointsbet, DraftKings, and BetMGM are a few examples.

Online sports betting has been a huge success in Louisiana. In its first year, online sportsbooks took in over $2 billion in wagers. The tax revenue generated from online sports betting has been used to fund a variety of programs, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure. It has also created jobs and boosted the state’s economy.

In Louisiana, you must be 21 or older in order to participate in any sports betting.
