After the Supreme Court struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in 2018, Kansas lawmakers began considering legislation to legalize sports betting. In 2020, lawmakers passed SB84, which legalized sports betting in the state. On May 12, 2022 Laura Kelly the Governor of Kansas signed SB84 into law.

The first licenses for online sports betting in Kansas were issued on August 23, 2022. A little over a week later on September 1, 2022, online sports betting launched in Kansas. There are currently 10 operational online sportsbooks in Kansas including BetMGM, FanDuel, DraftKings, PointsBet, Caesars, and more.

The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission (KSRC) is the state agency that oversees online sports betting in Kansas. They have been effective in preventing underage gambling and ensuring that sportsbooks operate in a fair and honest manner. The legal gambling age is 21 years or older in the state.
