Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill into law on April 15, 2019 to legalize sports betting in the state. The first online sportsbooks in Lowa launched on August 16, 2019 with BetMGM, FanDuel, and DraftKings. There are currently a total of 11 online sportsbooks in the state, including PointsBet, WynnBET, Caesars, BetRivers, and more.

Since its launch, the online sports betting industry in Lowa has been very successful. The online sportsbooks generated $1.4 billion dollars in revenue in 2021. With a large state population, a competitive tax rate, and proximity to major sports markets, Lowa’s online sports betting industry has flourished over the years since it started.

The Lowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) oversees all sports betting in the state. They are a state agency that regulates all forms of gambling in Lowa, from casinos to sports betting. The legal gambling age in the state is 21 years or older.
